We had light wind for 8 out of the 10 races, which was great to test all of our skills.
The results on day 2 weren't quite so pleasing, but we were still able to learn heaps. We were still competing with the top end, being in the top 3 again in 2 races, just not pulling it off in the last legs.
On day 3, aside from the second race, we were very competitive. We read the conditions well and played the first beat nicely along the left hand side of course, sitting us in the top 3, even in 1st down the run, for most of the race. Unfortunately, when the change of course flag went up, we didn't look for the new mark, but just expected it to be moved left because the wind had gone so left. Instead, the race committee had made a mistake and moved it right, meaning that it was a one tack beat from the right gate, and since we didn't look for the mark we ended up reaching in from the left... leaving us passed by majority of the fleet.
Race 3 was of a similar situation but in very light wind. We defended well to hold 3rd place around most of the course but Nick and James had superior speed and trim, placing us 4th through the line after a very tricky race with a big left shift, out-of-whack course and light winds. But we ended up retiring from the race for a mistake through the bottom gate.
The results we got didn't end up how we were aiming but the regatta was defiantly full of PB's, having never been so consistently in the top 3 before. We finished up 7th overall, female state champs, had lots of fun and learnt heaps. Thanks to coach Bunny!! We hope to improve our results at the Vic youth champs at Mornington in April. :)
